I can't even begin to express how validating this is for me. Every summer I worry about not having enough "plans" and start filling up my calendar to the point of becoming burnt out or become stressed when I feel like I don't have "enough" fun activities. I've actually been starting to feel this way as we near summer and have become increasingly worried about how to fill my weekends.
This changed my perspective on summer. I savoured every word of this post and look forward to my Boring Girl Summer filled with simple pleasures. What an absolute gem of a post! Lauren, your writing gives me chills.
It's this type of comment that makes it all worth it for me. Thank you Naomi, I truly appreciate your words and I'm so grateful for your support. May we find magic and fulfillment in our unplanned summers. 🌞
Love love love this!! I will also be having a boring girl summer with my books, my husband, my neighbor’s pool and lots of orange wine. No Italy or big trips for us, happy to just spend it in our own backyard. Cheers to us!
I now have boring Mom summers - my kids calendars intentionally DONT get filled , and I still get these exact moments. I’m blessed to have homebodies that slowed me down. I love how you write about being greatful to have these insights during the season of life you are in… great piece thank you for sharing and inspiring ! ✨
This week i’ve been up to absolutely nothing and today i went out into a local forest solo, and just sat in a tree with a cereal and the nature and thought about my boredom and loneliness. (seems to be a theme recently that i’ve been having a hard time accepting.) I love this piece and your wisdom so much!
I lived in a touristic city when I was a teenager. I loved the summers. I didn't need much more. Now I have a daughter and I don’t have much time (or money) to travel around. Enjoy your boring girl summer, i am envious.
I’m loving this article so much! Nostalgic and validating. After being surrounded by grandiose and celebrated busy culture and watching others & myself overwork to the point of stress& illness, reading this is a reminder that it is okay to chill and enjoy being laid back.
Love this! I always try and practice slow living, it's currently winter for me, so I will be aiming to have a slow winter. This week I have been going to my local cafe down the beach more and getting to see some whales as they migrate up the coast! My next goal is to do these activities without my phone with me.
As a freshly unemployed woman from the beginning of spring, I think I'll find this summer extremely enjoyable and filled with gratitude. Some things you listed are some that I have been practicing and it brings such a child-like joy, there are just no words to explain.
I love me a boring girl summer and a part of me wish we could just stay home, but I live in a city with awful weather (think 12 degrees Celsius and rain all summer), so it’s not the same without some sun. But will definitely channel the vibe - just a few countries further south!
I feel you on this! Our Canadian winters are lonnnng, so these little moments in the summer need to get me through all year. 🌞 Thanks so much for reading Kristina.

Thank you Carla! Wishing you a relaxing summer, xx
Sometimes you feel pressure to go out the country in the warmer months but actually you don’t have to. It’s ok to stay at home and enjoy yourself!
Totally agree! Thanks so much for reading Emma, xx
