Bunny is so bizarre but so good!! - I have a lot of theories!! - There are so many good threads on reddit if you are up for the rabbit hole discussion about it.
I definitely zoomed into that market salad so I could take NOTES. looks sooo good.
The Elle piece was fabulous, congrats! And also Michelle Zauner is working on a new book documenting the journey of learning Korean in Korea. I can’t wait!
No recent sleepovers, but I facetime with three of my best friends who are now scattered all over the US every Tuesday night, and we dream about it regularly! It’s the top of our list next time we’re all together. Truly glad you got to experience the magic of adult sleepovers ✨
Love your writing as always but just a note to say that I so admire the aesthetic of your Substack Lauren! The photos, the collages, the formatting, the *vibe* it's so pleasing and looks effortless (even if quite a bit of effort goes into it). Consider me inspired!
That is so kind and honestly means a lot, thank you Alexa! 🩷 Glad it looks effortless, hehe, it definitely takes some effort - but I truly enjoy the process.
I’ve had 2 girlfriend sleepovers this summer. At my age it is so great to reconnect with friends who were busy raising families (me too) who now have time to just enjoy. It’s a gift. Also spent time at Brian’s cottage and have always loved lake swimming - it’s in my blood.
Books! So many - someone asked me how many books I’ve read this year. I guessed 12. Then counted (on Goodreads) and it was 22.
I enjoyed The Secret Keeper by Genevieve Graham as it is set in Canada and one of the main characters lived and worked in Thunder Bay. Historical fiction based on
fact.
Happy fall - I admit I’m not ready for summer to end.
Thanks so much Shawn! Sounds like you had a wonderful summer, what a treat to catch up with old friends. Hehe, I agree, lake swimming is absolutely in your blood. I have such fond memories of life at the lake when Marian used to bring us out there.
22 books already this year, that is very impressive! I'll have to put The Secret Keeper on my watch list - sounds good. xx
Lauren! Thank you so much for your kind words about SLOWING! I'm thrilled it resonated with you. (I've also been meaning to read BUNNY forever and your review definitely made me want to bump it up on my list!)
Thank you, Rachel! It is such a beautiful collection of stories. Lately I've been trying to turn my attention from rushing through life to slowing things down (as an attempt to manage anxiety). Your book was brought to my attention at the perfect time and I could relate to a lot of the feelings you wrote about. As both a recent guide and future reference, I look forward to coming back to it. 🤍
Oh my goodness, BUNNY is such a trip! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I would love to hear your thoughts afterwards! xx
Mona Awad has a cult following, Bunny has been on my TBR forever. Thanks for the reminder! And I am so glad you liked Crying in H Mart. It's one of my most favorite books I've read this past year.
I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on Bunny! You always have such good insights. And thanks so much for recommending Crying in H Mart, it was such a beautiful book.
Going to have a sleepover with family this weekend and have a sleepover planned with a friend in Port Alberni for next month. I am sorry that the young 96 y/o didn't have a happy first childhood, but am happy that she is enjoying her second. I was super fortunate to have what I thought was an amazing first childhood and this second one that I have been enjoying for the last 9 years is pretty special to. Pretty much the only difference between the two is that during the second one, I can make all the shots cuz apparently I am supposed to be an adult, that's definitely up for debate, but I also have the means to pretty much do as I please, that's incredibly rewarding. Taking things slow and enjoying today or now is absolutely the best advice, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Get outside as much as you can.
Aww thank you Gabriella. Ok, yes! I am so excited for you. As someone who grew up in a lake town, I am super biased, but lake swimming is the best! Summer '25 is totally going to be your lake year. 🏊🏼♀️

Ahh thank you lovely! I'm totally going to have a little reddit rabbit hole moment with this book. 🐇
Screaming at you in Elle. 🌟 😍😍
Hehe, thanks so much Kaitlyn!

Thank you Teresa! Oh, that's really exciting. I will definitely read that when it comes out.

Thanks so much Kasey! That's awesome that you are able to Facetime each week and keep in touch so regularly. xx
- Favorite summer read(s): all the volumes in the Practical Magic universe. Written by Alice Hoffman.
- Ocean or lake? -- springs!
- Sleepovers? YES, me and my best friends adore sleepovers
Thanks for your comment Sam! Mmmm, springs! That sounds so refreshing.
The Practical Magic sounds series sounds like a fun read. ✨ Glad you shared. xx

I love Mona Awad! If you liked Bunny you have to read Rouge! It's my favorite by far.
Ohhh thank you so much for the recommendation. I will put this on the list for sure!
yay! i can't wait to hear what you think, it blew bunny out of the water for me...
Hello lovely!
Congrats on the Elle bit! So very exciting.

Haha, thanks Dad! I know your motto, grow old but don't grow up. Your retirement is an inspiration for sure. Love you.
