In person book clubs have been a highlight of my year! I'm in Vancouver and have attended incredible events at both Nooroongji Books and Upstart & Crow on Granville Island. Perhaps peruse eventbrite on island to see where literary events are already being hosted? Otherwise I have just leaned hard into asking people for their contact information when we connect at galleries, musuems, etc. (Name Drop is such a handy, low stakes feature for iphone users!) In December I will be book clubbing with a woman I met at creative mornings at VAG and another new friend I met at a run club. I've also hosted in-person components for online bookclubs (ie morning person but I have guests at my home or book a meeting room at the central library). Bonne chance!

And thank you for the pocket art link - I adore the works of the December artist, Laurie Boudreault, and it turns out she is based out of Tofino.

Awww wow, I'm so happy to hear this. Thanks for sharing, it's very inspiring to hear about all your book club connections and opportunities.✨

So glad you connected with Pocket Art - all the artists she features are awesome. I'm new to Laurie Boudreault's work, but can't wait to have a piece in my collection! Always a treat to find artists close to home.

Thanks again and have a lovely weekend, xx

This was so chock-full of goodness, Lauren! I love seeing how you collect affordable art and would love to read more about it from you. I love that painting of the shoes.

I've also been looking for an IRL book club, and it's so hard to make friends as an adult! I've had a little luck with local Reddit threads (I think it really depends on how active yours are), chatting it up with some booksellers, and attending local bookstore book clubs and author events to meet fellow readers. Maybe this year I'll leap, too, to invite a random group for our own!

Thank you Michelle, I always appreciate your comments. I'm hoping to share more about affordable art sometime in the new year.

Oh, reddit threads is an interesting thought - I've never looked into that but worth a shot! I will definitely need to attend some local bookstore clubs and see if I connect with anyone - maybe do a little healthy poaching of members, lol.

Wishing you a lovely end to the year, happy holidays! 🎄✨

😍 you have such curated taste—it opens me up to new things every time.

I have saved the profile of that house in Sydney to pour over again. So gorgeous.

I will be 100% getting that holiday hat.

Thank you Kaitlyn, that's a lovely compliment!

Ahhhh that house, I wish. So glad you're getting the holiday hat.

Hope you and the guys are having a great start to the holidays! Wishing you the best of the season 🩷🩷

I love your Christmas decorations! I noticed the Bonne Maman advent calendar mention below, I bought that for myself last year and highly recommend it! I think you'd like it.

I did not know that art subscription clubs existed, that is a fun way to collect art. :)

Aww thanks Sonya! I really need to check out this jam calendar now, that's so cool that you got it last year.

Wishing you a cozy and warm start to the holiday season! 🎄

I am splitting a Bonne Maman jam advent calendar with a friend (she has the odd number, I have the even). We are going to send daily toast updates. [She is someone from my bookclub. It’s a long-standing one (the core group started meeting 15 years ago). I think a key point is finding 1-2 people excited to commit. Maybe check a local library?)

Oh my goodness, a Bonne Maman jam calendar! That sounds amazing. Sharing with a friend too, what a great way to stay in touch for the month. Thanks for the advice on starting small, even one people who commits makes it a club! That's a good mindset. Have a lovely weekend❣️
