August felt the opposite for me. We have been spending majority of our weekends zoned in on walls as we paint. I thought painting would be therapeutic and relaxing but instead we get so tired that we start arguments about how we can see each others streaks or drips haha.
Books: I’ve had a list forever that I just never get to. I thought audible would simplify things but I really can’t get into it! I think once I create some space on my weekends that a book will be an intentional way of setting the tone. I’ve got Yellowface on my radar and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (yes I’m late to the party).
Oh I can imagine the nit picking of the paint streaks if Scott and I were attempting something like that, lol omg. Cannot wait to see everything though, I'm certain all your hard work will pay off.
You know, I felt the same about Audible. Love the idea, but don't actually use the account. It's hard to justify actually sitting down to read when there are so many other things to do.
The dessert pizza was so simple - we got raw dough from Wholefoods, stretched it out, and put it on the BBQ stone at full heat. Topped it with creme fraiche (or plain yogurt or any kind of soft cheese I guess), brown sugar, cinnamon, sliced figs/pears. When it was done, we drizzled it with honey, olive oil, and salt.
Miss you guys, I'll connect with you on Insta soon :)
The secret swimming holes are still a secret somewhere on Quadra Island. The earrings aren't my style, but do I even know what my style is. Where's my granola? I probably should read and get away from the stoopid screens that have me mesmerized way too much. Damn the days are getting shorter and I don't like it. Fun read as always Lauren Marie.
Yes they are still a secret. If you come over with us sometime, we will show you them. I’ll bring you granola on Sept 15th when we come up! Go for a walk! Haha, thanks for reading Dad.
I love the intention you have set for August. It's been a wonderful summer for me but I definitely overcommitted myself this year and as an introvert, I've been feeling a bit burnt out. Funnily, I enjoy a more slow-paced life but the opposite has happened this year. You've inspired me to get back to savouring slower days. I think this was in your last newsletter and I've written it down because it is how I want to live everyday - "simple pleasures and sweet routines". What a lovely way to describe it. Enjoy the rest of your summer! PS. I also love making my own granola. Cookie and Kate's recipe is a bit more simple and easily customizable.
PPS. This summer, I read "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone" and I enjoyed it very much. I thought because it was a book about a therapist it would be heavy, but it was surprisingly light and funny. It was able to approach more difficult topics with light-heartedness without being shallow. I've joined a book club with some friends and I'm looking forward to more reading this fall :)
Thank you Naomi! Glad you've had a great summer :) Fall will be a lovely time to catch up on some slower days. Just bookmarked the C+K granola and jotted down that book (which looks really good). Thanks so much for the recs! The book club I was a part of totally fizzled out, that's something I should look into again. Especially for the season we are heading into, a little book club gathering always feels nourishing! Take care and talk soon! xx

Please share the dessert pizza recipe. Yum!
Can’t wait for issue #8! xx
